🏊 Ariarne "Arnie" Titmus: Swimmer 🏊

Today I am going to be retelling the story of Ariarne Titmus whom I read about in Rebel Girls: Champions. So, here I go!

"Going into a race, what I've done in training gives me the confidence that I can perform." Ariarne "Arnie" Titmus

Ariarne Titmus grew up on land, but surrounded by water. She loved playing in princess gowns, riding horses, and playing in the bush with her sister. When she was 7 years old, the water started to call to her. She wasn't a very good swimmer at first ( like most people ) but she practiced and practiced, spending hours in the water. Soon, no one in the country of Tasmania could beat her! Her parents had a dilemma. *Should they stay in Tasmania where they had a beautiful home and great jobs, or should they go to Queensland so that Arnie could pursue her dream? They chose Queensland, and soon Arnie was crushing it! In just two years Arnie was ready for a bigger challenge. In 2021, Arnie stood on the divers block ready to shoot out in the water. "3, 2, 1, GO!" someone on the loudspeaker blared. For 3 minutes and 28 seconds Arnie was behind Katie Ledecky ( who was the fastest female swimmer in the world ) and then in the last 28 seconds she shot forward and won the gold! A few days later she broke another world record. Now Arnie has something better than princess gowns to wear. Shiny gold, silver, and bronze medals as reminders of all she's worked for.

I think that the lesson is that when you work hard for something you can achieve it!
